My Favorite Memory: My favorite memory would have to be being chosen as the godmother of Sam (an ABV coordinator) child who is due in April. My other favorite memory is being able to bond with the children of Good Hope and getting to know them. I was surprised that…. to live comfortably and be happy I actually needed very little and that my laptop was not a necessity! The most difficult thing I experienced was….The most difficult thin for me was realizing how far from home I actually was and becoming comfortable with that.

My Favorite Memory: I have so many great memories, I don’t think I can choose just one. My favorite memory related to my actual volunteer work is playing soccer, throwing the Frisbee, and playing games in the courtyard with the kids at the Clinic. Also, I prepared little Christmas stockings full of gifts for each child and passed them out on my last day at the clinic. They were so excited, happy, and grateful and showered me in hugs. It was absolutely wonderful. My other favorite memory was cooking Thanksgiving dinner with the girls in the house for our house mom and celebrating the holiday with them. It was really nice that we were able to share something from our American culture with our house mom.

ABroaderView staff and volunteers Matthew and Luz Sharp enjoyed a party celebrating “Day for the Disabled” in Hanoi. This is a new program recently added to Hanoi and the night was full of singing and dancing, happiness and love. Matthew and Luz produced the “Salsa” dance for the crowd and ABV Director Terry entertained with his painful version of “Let it Be”. The real stars were the trainees at the center who could actually sing beautifully. Needless to say a great time was had by all; the only sad part was that it had to end. From Luz, currently in Vietnam with ABroaderView project.

I had been researching many different options for volunteering abroad and knew immediately that A Broader View was who I wanted to use. Going by myself, my biggest selling point was that they have project coordinators in country and basically every potential worry was taken care of–you get picked up and dropped off at the airport, your home-stay and meals are included, and you get to choose when you go, for how long, and which project you want to do. I couldn’t choose between programs, so I decided to do back-to-back trips to Honduras and Costa Rica. All my questions were answered fully (and believe me, I had a lot), the costs were broken down so there were……

I enjoyed my time in Zambia. At the moment I would recommend spending time at the orphanage as this is where I believe you can make the greatest difference. Although this house is thankfully well supported with donations for food, medical care and clothing

Upon my arrival at House Net, I was immediately introduced to a group of extremely energetic toddlers. Jumping, spitting, pinching, hair-pulling toddlers. These were my charges.
After playing with a couple of the kids for less than an hour, it was very touching when they began referring to me as Mami. Here I was, a teenager who spoke little more Spanish than these toddlers, and they were placing me on a maternal pedestal of glory. I had a lot to live up to
