How would you describe/rate your experience working with the ABV staff in the USA? The ABV staff was great, very attentive and thorough.
Would you consider volunteering again with the our organization? Yes
Did you get on well with the local ABV Staff and feel supported during your stay? Yes, though the NGO I worked for while in Ghana was not the most attentive and I often had downtime.
What was your favorite memory of this trip? Hiking to the upper Wli Falls with other volunteers
What was the most difficult thing you experienced? The amount of downtime was difficult and frustrating. Also, the school I was teaching nutrition at had already had the nutrition lesson the week before and the kids clearly had already learned the information.

Any tips for future volunteers Bring a lot of books and snacks. I got very tired of the oily, starchy food and didn’t quite pack enough snacks.
Personal Paragraph (ABV Program Testimonial): I taught nutrition for a couple schools and helped with disability research, helping conduct interviews of disabled people for the HIV program. I spent a little time at the children’s home, though if you are planning on helping at the home, bring games or toys to play with because there is nothing to do with the children otherwise.

Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers? Sure
Sarah, This is China’s mom. She is fine, but doesn’t have much access to internet, so she is having me respond to her important emails. We have been talking on Skype (on the phone) and she is adjusting well. She loves the people–and says the children are so sweet and just gorgeous! Edem and his family have been helpful and generous. Also, China has enjoyed working with several Dutch women who are there working on the health project. China has done some interviews with them and worked in the school several times. She will start more routinely in the school next week–since the young woman who was there left on Friday to go home. They went to a hotel for the day yesterday and hung out by the pool–and ate salads–a real treat from the usual rations. China will let you know her thoughts when she returns, but I can tell her experience will have been life changing. I also know she appreciates (as do I) how well organized ABV has been in setting everything up and communicating with her before her trip. Thank you for checking in.
